THE LIFE STORY
Velma Cave was born on November 3rd 1944, to Emmanuel Smalls and Annabelle Adams, in Philadelphia, PA. Velma was the youngest of 3 children and was preceded in death by them all. Unexpected to us all, Velma was suddenly taken by the hand and peacefully led home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 14th 2025. Velma was raised in the church and gave her life to Christ at a young age. Her love for Christ and his people followed her all throughout her life. She attended the Philadelphia School System and upon completion entered into the nursing field as a private duty nurse, working at the old Philadelphia General Hospital (PGH) and Inglish House. She also worked for the Philadelphia School Board as a Cafeteria Aide and Non- Teaching Assistant. Her love for helping people drew her back to nursing and she spent her days caring for her patients until retirement.
Velma Cave was the proud and devoted mother of 4 children. She raised her family in North Philadelphia working hard to put her children through school, and instilling in them all the values and morals that she held dear to her heart. Velma had a strong community presence. She was a Block Captain for the 3000 block of Cambridge St. for 30 years. She was one of the founding members of the Girard Avenue Coalition, and received awards for her work throughout the community from the City of Philadelphia.
On October 31st 2010 Velma was Ordained as a Minister by Bishops Victor Fletcher and William Thomas. Throughout the years Velma formed Prayer Groups, Bible Studies, and touched many lives, She was always available as a listening ear and intercessor for her family and community. She would spend hours in prayer, and bible study offering an encouraging word and spreading the Gospel.
Velma's memory will be cherished by her children Randy Adams (Wendy), Terrance Adams (Pam), David Adams (Rasheema) and Kizzy Adams. She also leaves behind to mourn her a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
