SARAH E STRATTON

On September 17, 2026, as Sarah's family gathered at her bedside, she closed her

eyes peacefully as God called our beloved Sassy woman home.

Sarah Elizabeth Stratton was born on June 6, 1940, to the late William Boggs, Sr. and

Alice Seymour-Mears (Stanley Mears) in Accomack County, Virginia, on the Eastern

Shore. At a young age, Sarah married the late Brooks Mapp, Sr., and together they

raised a family of five. Years later, she met her “Knight in Shining Armor,” Jack Stratton,

and from that union, they had three children and married in 1986. Their marriage was

full of love, laughter, and celebration. Those who knew Jack and Sarah will remember

the joyful gatherings they hosted for family and friends.

Sarah was a dedicated Eastern Star for many years and worked in the healthcare field,

where she demonstrated empathy and compassion to all her patients. Anyone who

knew Sarah recognized her genuine care for people. She enjoyed cooking, shopping,

traveling, going to the casino, and most importantly, spending time with family and

friends. Her presence touched countless lives in meaningful ways.

Her warmth and personality brought comfort to those around her. She was an attentive

listener who offered thoughtful reflection rather than direct advice, often asking, “What

do you want to do?” or reminding others, “Only you know.” Sarah was a wise and strong

woman who treasured moments with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren,

and especially her husband, Jack.

For many years, Sarah believed she was an only child, but later in life, she was united

with her biological father, William Boggs, discovering she had three brothers and four

sisters. Though Sarah may no longer be with us physically, the love, guidance, and

memories she left behind will forever remain.

She is survived by her devoted husband Jack Stratton; three brothers, Charles

(Mildred), Reggie (Debra), William Jr. (Sharon); three sisters, Laurette (Ron), Darlene

(Barnabas), Monique (Oscar), Yvette (T.O.); two sons, Brooks Jr. (Keta) and Maurice

(Cindy); three daughters, Sheila, Lisa (George), and Selena (Marvin); and a host of

grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,

cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her children Vernon, Ronald, and

Nina, also known as Missy.
