OSCAR JAMES

The Life Story

With deep love and heartfelt gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of Oscar Lee James, who peacefully entered into eternal rest during the early morning hours of July 22, 2026, at the age of 89.

Oscar was born on September 18, 1936, in Martin County, North Carolina, to the late Arthur James and Janie James. He was one of eleven children and was raised alongside his brothers and sisters: Milton, Howard, Ervin, David, William Thomas, Rudolph, Ruth, Senia, Nora, and Girlie. Growing up in a close-knit family, Oscar learned the values of faith, humility, hard work, and perseverance—qualities that would define the man he became.

On September 30, 1957, Oscar united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Clydie Mae Ore, in Martin County, North Carolina. Shortly after their marriage, they became part of the Great Migration, relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they built a loving home and created a strong foundation for their family. Together they shared nearly 48 years of marriage, filled with love, devotion, and unwavering commitment until Clydie’s passing on November 25, 2005.

Oscar devoted many years of dedicated service to Boeing Helicopter Company, where he faithfully worked until his retirement. He was admired as a dependable, hardworking, and humble man who took great pride in providing for his family. His quiet strength, integrity, and steadfast work ethic earned him the respect of his coworkers and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family was the center of Oscar’s life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, caring brother, uncle, and loyal friend. He believed that actions spoke louder than words and demonstrated his love through sacrifice, wisdom, patience, and unwavering support. His gentle spirit, kind heart, and thoughtful guidance left an indelible mark on every generation of his family.

Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clydie Mae Ore James; his cherished daughter, Debbie James Pickard; his parents, Arthur James and Janie James; and all of his siblings: Milton, Howard, Ervin, David, William Thomas, Rudolph, Ruth, Senia, Nora, and Girlie.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted son, Jeffery James; his beloved grandchildren, Frankie Pickard, Jeffery James Jr., Patrice Pickard, Denise Pickard, and Tiffany James; a host of treasured great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by his love and presence.

Oscar’s final chapter reflected the same courage, resilience, and quiet determination that characterized his entire life. Even during illness, his faith remained steadfast, and his strength inspired those who cared for and loved him. His family will forever treasure his warm smile, gentle spirit, words of wisdom, and the countless lessons he taught simply by the way he lived.

Although his earthly journey has ended, the legacy of love, faith, integrity, and perseverance that Oscar leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will remain a guiding light, reminding us that a life well lived is measured not only by years, but by the love shared, the lives touched, and the example left for others to follow.
