Morris Bernard Joyner “Hawk”
Morris Bernard Joyner was born on November 19, 1951 to the late Westley and Corrine Joyner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bernard’s family moved to Philadelphia Pennsylvania at an early age.
Bernard was educated in the catholic school system. The Catholic schools he attended were St Elizabeth Elementary, and Mercy Technical Vocational High School where he took up carpentry as his trade.
He was good at his trade in building homes laying sheetrock, dropping ceilings and reconstructing homes.
After moving to Florida, Bernard attended DeVry University then he went on to attend The University of Phoenix where he graduated with honors and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Bernard then attended Southern New Hampshire University where he achieved his Master Degree. Bernard studied Literature, writing where he was awarded first class honors for six years as a professional writer.
Bernard was also actively involved in the boy scouts, troop 214, 601 and 604, where he became assistant patrol leader for all patrols. He loved going hiking, camping and on jamboree’s. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS where he was trained in Paris
Island, South Carolina. He continued his training in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Thereafter, was sent to the jungles of Vietnam where he was wounded and served his country bravely with honors.
Bernard received Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Moore’s Memorial Baptist Church on 15th & Dauphin St., Philadelphia, PA by the late Revered John A. Stewart where he continued to serve out his soul salvation.
Bernard was heavily involved in the neighborhood where he started the “town watch” in the vicinity around the 28th & Montgomery area. Bernard was known as “HAWK” Bernard coached the basketball team, known as the “MIGHTY ONES “where they were undefeated in Philadelphia. They went on to play the best team in Coatesville where they remained undefeated.
Bernard was a very loving, kind, humorous, and generous person. He would give you the shirt off his back. As a hobby, Bernard enjoyed listening to all types of music, mainly jazz.
He loved the Florida Panthers as his sports team.
Benard was preceded in death 2 brothers Freddie Goodwin & Michael Joyner. Bernard leaves to cherish his memories: 2 Brothers, Westley Joyner who resides in Montreal, Canada, His brother Anthony Joyner (Tony D”) of Philadelphia and his loving sister Shirley Joyner of Philadelphia PA. He also leaves his daughter Kenisha 2 granddaughters Londyn & Jala a host of nieces and nephews relatives and friends.
