Listen to Obituary

Michelle Lee Kingwood-Payton was born on September 21, 1971, to Brenda Watkins-Kingwood and Lee Kingwood. Born and raised in North

Philadelphia, Michelle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and

presence brought comfort and joy to the lives of many.

Michelle was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from Simon Gratz High School.

Michelle was united in marriage to William Payton. She was the loving mother of three children: Curtis Kingwood (Onneshia); Nydria Perkins; and

KhadijahMcNeil- Smith (Malik McNeil-Smith). Her children were a precious part of her life, and her love continued through her beloved

grandchildren: Kahlimah, Maurice, Ny’kiem, Fatah’Malik, and Nymir’Chosyn. She was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Safiyyah.

Her family was her heart. Michelle cherished the bonds she shared with those she loved, and the love she poured into her family will continue to live

on through every generation. Michelle shared a special bond with her siblings: Lisa, Lena, Theresa and Blake, Jackie

and Eddie, Letitia and Mike, Tiyaina, and Lee III. Michelle found joy in the simple moments that made life meaningful. She loved sitting

on the porch, enjoying her scratch-offs, listening to music, laughing, talking, and simply being surrounded by the people she loved. She had a way of

making ordinary moments feel special. A conversation, a shared laugh, a familiar song, or time spent together could become a treasured memory

 simply because Michelle was there.

On September 20, 2026, at 3:07 a.m., just one day before her birthday, Michelle peacefully departed this life. Although her passing leaves an

emptiness that words cannot fully express, the love she gave remains a lasting gift to everyone blessed to know and love her.

Michelle leaves to cherish her memories through her father, Lee Kingwood (Cynthia), Mother, Brenda Watkins-Kingwood. Her legacy will continue to

live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family members —in the stories

they share, the lessons they remember, and the love they continue to give because of her.
