LIFE AND LEGACY STORY OF

Lazeski James "Peanut" Byrd

Lazeski James Byrd, affectionately known to family and friends as "Peanut" Byrd, was born on October 4, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late James Byrd and Hazel Keel. On July 3, 2026, he peacefully transitioned from this earthly life, surrounded by the love and prayers of those who cherished him.

Lazeski was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and went on to become a dedicated and hardworking man. He was a loyal employee of the ACME Company for more than 20 years, where he earned the respect and friendship of many coworkers.

Above all else, Lazeski loved the Lord. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he faithfully served as a longtime Deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church. He found great joy in worship, serving his church family, and sharing God's love through his actions and unwavering commitment.

Lazeski “Peanut” was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. For more than 50 years, he shared a beautiful love story with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Beulah Chandler-Byrd. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, and family. They enjoyed attending church, going to the movies, and creating lasting memories with their children, grandchildren, and loved ones.

When he wasn't spending time with family, Peanut enjoyed a good game of spades, where his laughter, friendly competition, and joyful spirit made every gathering special. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved, especially his children, grandchildren (affectionally known as Pop Pop)great-grandchildren and hanging out with his two brothers, Charles and Solomon.

Lazeski was preceded in death by his parents, James Byrd and Hazel Keel; his sister, Priscilla Keel; his brother, Charles Hayes; his son, Quran Chandler; his daughter, Tavon Chandler; his infant child; and his beloved grandson, Little Mike.

Lazeski leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of more than 50 years, Beulah Chandler-Byrd; his loving children: daughters Yvonne, Tiffany, and Stephanie, and sons James Michael, Saleem, Terrell, and Tyree; a host of grandchildren; a few great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever blessed by knowing him. A special mention of his niece Gabriel, 20th and York Street Friends (Vanessa Stone), and Peanut’s Chess and Card Friends from Smedley Street.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Lazeski's life was one of faith, love, service, and devotion. His gentle spirit, warm smile, steadfast faith, and unconditional love for his family will remain in our hearts forever. Everything that Peanut touched (Lives) turned to Gold.
