Life Story

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Latasha Denise (Ruffin) Morton, 37, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who left us peacefully on July 22, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born on September 30, 1988, Latasha was the cherished daughter of Tyhesha Ruffin and Brelin Hill. She was educated in the Philadelphia school system, where she met Walter Morton. Together, they shared 19 years of laughter, love, and partnership, including 10 beautiful years of marriage. They truly enjoyed each other's company, shared many common interests, and worked numerous jobs together. Walter was truly the love of her life.

Above all, Latasha was a devoted mother to her sons, Uzziah Kenard and Uriel Karter Morton, who were the greatest joys of her life. She never missed a soccer, football, or basketball game, school concert, or any community function her children were a part of. They were her absolute pride and joy. "Tasha" found immense happiness in simply laying in bed with them, talking, showering them with love, and watching her favorite movies, including Home Alone, Inside Out, Over the Hedge, Robot city, Toy Story, and The Princess and the Frog.


Latasha dedicated 13 years of her life to founding and organizing performing arts groups (drill teams), most notably the Talented Youth Cavaliers. She brought family and neighborhood youth together, transforming them into champions. Through her mentorship, she built their confidence, boosted their self-esteem, and taught them discipline—all while ensuring they had fun. They traveled all over the East Coast for competitions, winning numerous trophies and awards. Because of her deep impact, most of the youth affectionately called her "Mom" and looked up to her as a guiding light.

In 2014, Tasha was diagnosed with Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that causes the body to produce too much collagen, leading to hard, thick skin and potential damage to blood vessels and internal organs. Despite her illness, Tasha was determined to truly live. She regularly took her children to Disney, went on numerous cruises with family, and traveled across both the East and West coasts. Traveling was her passion, and she used it to show her children that there is so much more to life than video games, television, and social media. Energetic and entrepreneurial, her family also ran several businesses, including Morton Suga Rush, Morton Poodle Palace, and a graphic design shirt business.

Throughout her life, Tasha was determined to educate others about Scleroderma. She was deeply committed to fundraisers and panel discussions, and proudly served as a board member for the Delaware Chapter of the Scleroderma Foundation. Encouraged by her husband to reach a wider audience, she created her own podcast, The Teal Room. Through her show, she interviewed others sharing the same journey, highlighting different perspectives on life. She talked openly about the good and the bad, reviewed new medicines on her TikTok channel to raise awareness, and consistently uplifted the Scleroderma community.

Latasha had a heart that loved deeply, and so many people loved her right back. She was the kind of person who was always willing to help out, never asking for anything in return, and she never missed a chance to call or text just to see how you were doing. Family meant the world to Tasha. She made sure to teach her kids how important it is to pause and celebrate one another. She lived that value, too—in her mid-20s, she organized an entire family reunion Black and White Ball all on her own! It’s been years since our last one, but that moment showed just how much she cared..

Latasha also loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While living in Maryland, she found a church home at Living Grace Worship Cathedral in Middletown, Delaware. Even when she later resided in Georgia, she remained a faithful member, watching the broadcast every Sunday on YouTube. Her goal was to spread the word of Jesus through song and testimony. She made sure her family was secure in their faith, teaching them that nobody is greater than God, to trust in the Lord, and to lean not onto their own understanding.

Latasha leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Walter Morton; her two sons, Uzziah and Uriel Morton; her standard Poodle Loki Morton; her mother, Tyhesha Ruffin; her father, Brelin Hill; her grandmother, Patricia Ruffin; her grandfather, James Ruffin; her aunt, Shawdra Johnson; her uncle, Maurice Hamlin; her godmother, Angela Brown; her sister, Kayla Ruffin; and her sister-in-law, Linda Morton. Tasha also leaves behind a host of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended daughters and sons, and friends whom she loved deeply.

Latasha was a woman of faith, courage, and conviction. Her life’s work transformed communities, uplifted families, and inspired generations. Although she departed this earthly life early, her legacy and the love she shared will continue to live on. We are incredibly grateful for the precious time we spent with her and appreciate all the love she continuously poured into us throughout her life.
