Life Story of Kathy Renee Johnson
Kathy Renee Johnson, the daughter of the late Douglas Collins and the late Jean Weeks Collins, was born on March 16,1957, at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Danville, Virginia, Kathy answered the call of her Heavenly Father after a lengthy illness.
Kathy received her early childhood education at Huey Elementary School. She received her high school education at West Philadelphia High School. Kathy went on to further her education at Pierce Junior College, where she majored in Fashion Merchandising.
Kathy married her childhood friend, Roosevelt Johnson on July 15,1978. From this union, three children were born: Doyya Johnson, Anessa Johnson and Tian Johnson, who passed away six months after his mother.
Kathy made a career out of serving others, working for 25 years in the food service industry. She had a heart that never stopped giving. She loved to cook, eat and savor her own food. Helping others was something she simply could not resist. She was a very service -oriented person who gave her best in whatever she did, even when her health began to decline.
For many years, Kathy wrestled with challenges and hardships; yet her story did not end there. In her later years, she chose a different path—one filled with faith, healing, and love. She found her strength and reconnected with her family. Kathy joined Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2013 along with her mother. Kathy served on the Ladies Usher Board until her health began to fail.
When Kathy’s health began to decline, she moved to Danville, Virginia, to be cared for by her children.
Kathy was a loving and devoted mother, kind and gentle to everyone. Her sweet nature made her a joy to be around.
Kathy leaves to cherish her fond memory and inspiration: three children, Doyya Johnson, Anessa Johnson, and Tian Johnson (who passed away six months after his mother); seven grandchildren: Karl Davis, Jr., Kahmere Johnson, Destiny Johnson, Bryan Smith, Jr., Nyla Johnson, Dayvon Johnson, and Kahmaya Smith; three sisters: Patricia Greene, Pamela Sims, and Antonia Smalls; six brothers, Rodney Collins, James Collins, Derwin Collins, Calvin Collins, Damon Todd Adams, and Dominick Stewart; three aunts Lauramer Ames, Carrie Yon and Mary Collins; two uncles, Clarence Weeks and Samuel Weeks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
