Jim L. Jackson Jr., affectionately known as “Poppa,” lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, friendship, and family. Though his earthly journey came to an end on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the age of 65, his love of life and the beautiful memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. After a long and courageous battle with kidney issues, Jim was called home to eternal rest.

Jim Louis Jackson Jr. was born on September 3, 1961, at 10:35 a.m. at Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, to Eurie Jackson and Jim Jackson Sr. He was lovingly raised by his parents alongside his three sisters in a home built on love, strength, support, and wisdom. These values helped shape the man Jim would become and remained a part of him throughout his life.

During his childhood, Jim relocated with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he continued his education. He earned his high school diploma and later received an electrician certification through Job Corps. Jim was a man who knew how to work with his hands. He possessed a natural talent for fixing things and took pride in his ability to make things work. Whether tackling a project or lending a helping hand, Jim was someone people could depend on.

As Jim made his home in Philadelphia, he developed deep and lasting friendships with a special group of men who became more than friends—they became brothers. These bonds were built on loyalty, laughter, shared experiences, and a brotherhood that remained close to his heart. Jim cherished his friends and the memories they created together.

Then came the love of his life, Ellen, affectionately known as “Cookie.” Their love story became a special part of Jim’s life, bringing companionship, happiness, and a love that would forever hold a place in his heart. Together, Jim and Ellen welcomed their son, Jim L. Jackson III, whom Jim loved dearly.

Jim’s love extended beyond his biological family. He embraced Karima, Billy, and Quinzell as a father figure, offering love, guidance, and support. His heart grew even bigger as he became a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren. His family was one of his greatest blessings, and the love he shared with each generation will forever remain a treasured part of his legacy.

To know Jim was to know someone who truly loved life. He lived on his own terms, laughed wholeheartedly, and embraced whatever life had to offer. He enjoyed turning up his loud music, playing his bass guitar, and filling the atmosphere with the sounds he loved. Music was one of the many ways Jim expressed himself, and his rhythm, laughter, and vibrant spirit made him unforgettable.

Jim loved his friends. He loved his family. He loved music. Most of all, Jim loved LIFE! His presence brought joy, his personality left lasting impressions, and his love created memories that will never fade.

Though our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to Poppa, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to live through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

His journey on Earth may have ended, but his story is far from over. Every song that plays, every family gathering, every shared laugh, and every memory recalled will remind us of the remarkable man we were blessed to know and love.
