THE LIFE STORY/CELEBRATION OF LIFE

It is with heavy hearts and tear-filled eyes that we inform you of the passing of Isadora “Izzy” Daniels who was born on September 12 th , 1937 and lived a long daring life up until the age of  89. Izzy went on to be with the Lord surrounded by family on October 1 st , 2026.

Izzy was born to Benjamin and Mary Chancy on September 12th , 1937 in Durham North Carolina. She attended the local schoolhouse for her grade school. At the age of 14 Izzy relocated to Philadelphia where she began her life as many know today. Once in

Philadelphia, she lived in South Philadelphia briefly before moving to the North Philadelphia section of the city, where she lived for the rest of her life. Izzy attended Stoddart-Fleisher for Junior Highschool where she discontinued her studies to care for her siblings and her parents; she worked her one and only job at Norman’s Lamp Shade Factory in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Following, Izzy continued her working years providing

care and catering services to family and friends. Izzy was very passionate about keeping her space clean and nurturing her plants and

Garden. She was a part of “Philadelphia more beautiful” and received an award on the infamous Cumberland street. In 1986 she was featured on the news for having the best front yard on the block. She maintained this home and street for years until her departure from Cumberland Street. In addition to nurturing her garden and space, she enjoyed most taking care of and being with her family and friends and community. Izzy extended herself as far as she could. She would give you the clothes off her back and make sure you always had food in your belly. She was a certified foster parent for over 15 years that never wanted to see anyone without, not even strangers. She enjoyed partying, shopping and karaoke with her family.

Izzy raised all of her children and grandchildren on her infamous meals and wisdom that masked itself as trash talking. Izzy was loved by many people; she was a true pilar in the community, she would provide a plethora of services that simply brought her joy; some of which she started as early as 10 years old. She enjoyed doing hair, cooking, and caring for children, she was truly the matriarch of not only her family, but her community, she became a sacred space for far too many people to name, giving them things money could never replace. Izzy was known for hosting some of the best family parties, with her favorite holiday being Thanksgiving. So much so,she would turn it into a 3-day party. When she was not busy hosting the best parties for her family to attend, she enjoyed traveling and making new memories.

Izzy leaves to cherish her 4 daughters and 2 sons; Estella, Carolyn, Melody and Latisha, Joseph and Vernon. Izzy was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and a host of great great-grandchildren. Izzy was preceded in death by her husband Rayfield Butler, her sister EllaMae Chancy her brother John, her twin sons and her Great Granddaughter Iyanna Daniels.
