Listen to Obituary

After a long and courageous battle, Christine Church, daughter of the late Madeline and James Church, was born on May 9, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She peacefully departed this life on September 1, 2025. Affectionately known as Pookie by her loving family and close friends, Christine was one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet..

Christine was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. Throughout her life, she worked various jobs, but her greatest devotion was always to her family. She lovingly raised and nurtured her children and grandchildren, shaping their lives withher unwavering love, support, and guidance. Her home was a place of warmth and care, where she was a constant source of comfort for the children she looked after throughout the years.

Christine’s life was forever blessed in 1981 when she met her devoted companion, Byron Davis. Their bond of 44 years was filled with love, strength, and countless cherished memories, a true partnership that stood as an example of devotion and joy. She was blessed with three children: Takeysha, Maurice, and Braheem, whom she loved unconditionally. The loss of her son Maurice was one of the greatest challengesshe faced, but with the constant love and support of her family, she found strength to continue. Her love for her grandchildren was immeasurable and deeply devoted.

Christine shared an inseparable bond with her sister, Arlene, affectionately known as Momma. Their connection was rooted in love and sisterhood, and together they created lifelong memories. Christine was full of life and found joy in spending time with her sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, and nephews at family gatherings, always the last one standing at every event. She also embraced social media, staying connected with her loved ones through Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok once she learned how to use them, she was unstoppable. Sending out 100 messages a day. She had a special love for seafood, especially blue crabs, often sharing this passion with her niece Dee.

Christine carried an unshakable confidence that radiated through everything she did. She adored dressing up, getting her hair and nails done, and calling Dee to apply her lashes. Always stylish, Christine was a true diva. She also cherished music, especially the oldies, singing and dancing with joy, often in front of her mirror. She enjoyed being home with her partner Tony, catching up in shows, watching the football games and their intimate gatherings. Her faith in God was central to her life. Despite challenges with mobility, she remained steadfast in her devotion, attending church services online and drawing strength fromher spiritual community.

Christine leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is lovingly remembered by her lifetime partner, Byron A. Davis; her children, Takeysha Church and Braheem Church (fiancée Alisha); and her bonus daughter, Felicia Sanders. She also cherished her grandchildren: Ricky K. Harris, Maurice A. Church Jr., Zyahir Anthony Church, Kalauni Church, Ayana Church, and Braheem Church Jr. She is survived by her beloved sister Arlene (Momma), her brothers Tracy and Daryl, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
