Barry C. Neal was born on October 18, 1946, to the late Yvonne Palmer and Clifton Neal. He was educated through the parochial school system and later graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. At an early age, Barry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, establishing a foundation of faith that remained an important part of his life.

In 1966, Barry married the love of his life, Brenda Donaldson. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Tammy, Karen, and Bysherra. Together, Barry and Brenda built a life and family rooted in love, commitment, and togetherness. Later in life, Barry was blessed with another daughter, Ensa, affectionately known as “Peanut.”

Barry proudly served his country as a member of the United States military. Following his honorable discharge, he continued to build a life centered on hard work, dedication, and providing for his family. Barry later attended OIC, where he developed his culinary skills and pursued his passion for cooking. He became a chef and eventually obtained employment at the detention center, where he faithfully worked until his health no longer allowed him to continue his career.

To those who knew and loved him, Barry was affectionately known as “Sugar Bear.” He was a charming man with a playful personality and a memorable way with the ladies. His family lovingly remembers his humorous reputation for “spreading sugar all over the land.” This playful spirit, quick wit, and unmistakable charm were all part of what made Barry uniquely himself.

Barry also had a deep love for football and was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. When the Eagles played, Barry was front and center, focused on every game and fully invested in his team.

Beyond his humor, charm, and love of football was a man whose life touched generations. Barry was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and cherished loved one. His presence, life experiences, values, and the family he helped build created a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Barry C. Neal departed this life on September 7, 2026.

Preceded in Death

Barry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda D. Neal; his parents, Yvonne Palmer and Clifton Neal; his sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Joseph Holcomb; his grandparents, Walter and Delilah E. Crump; and his great-grandparents, Mervin and Rebecca Crump and Edward and Annie Meekins.

Those Left to Cherish His Memory

Barry leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Tammy, Karen, Bysherra, and Ensa “Peanut”; his sister, Lora Neal; his brother, Lorrance Neal (Dasharr); his grandchildren, Ieshia (Lamont), Latoya (the late Terrell), Bysherra (Andre), Keisha, Antonio (Tanesha), Vaughn (Quanda), Kaleal, Linda, Brad, and Khalif; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones.

Though Barry’s earthly journey has come to an end, the life he lived continues through the generations that came after him. His memory will remain woven into the stories, laughter, traditions, and lives of the family he leaves behind.

The sweetness of Barry’s memory will remain with his family forever.
